Update #24 - Behind the Scenes Picture Edition

Hi all, Happy Monday!

After the struggle last week of finding things to talk about, I decided this week I could share some behind the scenes photos of the transformation of the premises from Sports Nutrition Shop to Micropub. As you probably know, it took a bit longer than anticipated (even before covid) but we’re here now and we couldn’t be happier!

Without further adieu, here’s some pictures documenting the transformation:

This picture was taken the day I received the keys in November 2019. As you can see, it’s very clear what the spaces’ previous incarnation was. We did originally consider having the bar area in the same place it’s seen in this photo, however we soon realised that we could open this up to more seating by decreasing the size of the backroom area. I knew a lot of work was ahead, but the potential was there. Also note the ceiling and old air conditioning unit, all of which was subsequently removed.

This photo was taken at the end of January. The ceiling had started to be taken down, all the shelving etc. had been cleared out and some of the partitions removed. I remember posting an update around this time talking about the various stages of the building work, at this moment we had gutted everything and it was time to start building it back up.

Jumping quite a bit forward here. This picture was taken near the end of February 2020. Quite a bit of work had been done with the wall partitions and bar area removed, ceiling replaced with soundproofing, new walls in and electricity fittings in place. As well as the condenser for the cool room.

In this photo you can see the first layer of paint on the walls and ceiling have been applied. It’s incredible scrolling back a few images to see how much of a difference had been made. Things were definitely on the move at this time.

Here we can see wood panelling painted and top shelving in place. Much to our relief, the colour scheme worked as well as we hoped. Having the temprorary lighting in place helped get a feel for how it would look with the interior lighting.

At the back you can see the cool room is taking shape and the partition for the store room/kitchen is also coming together. Also note the beers dotted around as we were getting ready to start our delivery service during lockdown.

I’ve just noticed that John is wearing identical clothes in this picture and standing in pretty much the identical spot as the previous picture. However, as you can see this was taken quite a few weeks later, with the bar finally added in, light fittings in place and looking good (styling by Mel) and shelves stocked with beer!

And here’s a picture as things stood last week! This is very much our setup for Covid and not our final form. Expect much more seating indoors whenever we get to the other side.
