Weekly Update #22 - Cooling Casks and Crushing Cans

One thing we’re still getting the balance right with is the amount of drinks we order and keep in stock. The start of last week was manic and saw as fly through both cask and cans at a rate we’ve not yet experienced. In most ways this is great to see but the flip side is that by Friday we were nearly out of cask ale and half our fridge was empty!

By Saturday we had cooled, racked and tapped two new ales on cask and we were able to get through the weekend, so crisis averted. For anyone that’s already popped by you’ll know that we don’t have that much space, so striking that balance between having enough stock and having enough space is pretty tough.

Any attempt to predict what days will be busier than others has proved fruitless. Although, with only four weeks of sales so far we haven’t much data to work through. For example, I’d assume Wednesday would be the quietest day of the week then lo and behold Wednesday comes along and we have one of our busiest days so far. A bright and sunny Saturday would lead me to expect a busy day and it ends up being relatively quiet. Inversely, a dark and stormy evening would suggest a quiet period but ends up being just as busy as usual.

The good news though is that this week we’ll have a LOT of new beers in stock with a massive delivery coming Thursday. We’ve got new cans from the likes of Howling Hops, Pressure Drop, Verdant, Gravity Well and Cloudwater - so we shouldn’t have any risk of bare shelves in the fridge.

Oh and talking of cans, we’re getting a can crusher mainly to help make some space with recycling but also because crushing cans with a machine is pretty fun.

Finally, a quick reminder that for those interested on what we have on tap you can find out on our live beer board powered by the Real Ale Finder App:
