Weekly Update #14 - Opening Spring 2020

In last week’s update I mentioned about the sound insulation going up. This has now been finished and the screed applied - no more office style ceiling!

With the ceiling complete, we’re moving on to the final elements of building work and it’s easier for me to go through these point by point:

  • Cool Room - The most important thing for any Micropub! For this we need to put up the new wall partition (with a door and hopefully a viewing window) and then get the waterproof flooring down. Once that’s in place, we’ll get the cask stillages installed. We’re still working out dimensions and layout possibilities for our racking system that lets us have as many casks in as possible, but for it also not to be impossible to move around in.

  • Toilet - Our super tiny toilet is also close to being completed, the tiling is to be finished next week and then we’ll get the toilet and sink (and plumbing) installed. Due to our limited space we’re still hunting for a suitably sized toilet that gives enough room to maneuver whilst actually being comfortable.

  • The Bar - We still need to get the bar constructed and I’m working on various permutations of layout that balances space with function, we need to fit in things like glass washer, fridges, space for a sink and payment system, as well as glasses and sundries.

  • The Bar Floor - The dado rail and skirting board has now been added to the wood panelling and it’s looking mighty fine. I’m actually surprised how satisfying I found something as small as the addition of the dado rail. After being a building site for the last couple of months, the little touches like that are really rewarding.
We’re also going to have small shelving going along the top of the walls and once this is in place we can begin painting everything and then getting the lighting fixtures put up. Oh, and tables and chairs.

  • Exterior - The weather continuously hampers our efforts to get things done out the front, but we still need to paint the window frames and doors and get the lettering up, we’ve also got a corner of a wall that needs to be touched up.

I’ve got a schedule in place for all of this work and currently we are on track for the opening date I have in my head, and as long as everything stays on course the opening date will soon be shared!

Cheers,

Rob
