Weekly Update #13 - Frequently Asked Questions
With another week of horrendous weather out the way, it’s hard not to look forward and think Spring can’t come soon enough. Therefore once again the elements have held up any work we can get done to the exterior, but fortunately it hasn’t stopped progress going on inside.
The most exciting development is that sound insulation is going up as I write this. As some of you may know, this has been the biggest hurdle for the last few months - so it comes as a massive relief. Once this is in place we’re really at the final stretch of building work. We’re also close to a stage where we can start sharing some 'behind the scenes' photos.
Other than that, I thought this week would be a good opportunity to do a little FAQ:
Q: When Will You Be Opening?
We don’t have an exact opening date yet. There’s still a few more weeks of building work to do before we have a better idea, but if I’m forced to give a ballpark answer I’d say “Early Spring” - maybe sooner, maybe later. Although I’m sure everyone will share my sentiment that the sooner the better! Keep checking our website and social media for that announcement when it comes.
Furthermore, we’ll have a few private openings before the official opening to iron out any kinks etc. I’ll possibly put out a limited amount of invite spots for these at a later date, although we’ll have to see.
Q: Where Are You Located?
We are located at 11-12 The Broadway, Highams Park. I didn’t actually know the stretch we’re on is called “The Broadway” until I started looking at the premises. So I assume most people know it as Winchester Road. We’re under 100m from Highams Park Overground Station. Another point of reference that might be useful for people - we’re 2 doors down from the wonderful Vinoramica.
Q: How Many People Can You Hold?
This is something that can be better answered when we have furnishings in. I reckon we’ll be able to seat 20/25 people with more room for standing. Also, when the weather gets nicer we’ll be adding tables and chairs to the front of the bar.
Q: What Food Will You be Doing?
When we first open we’ll be serving your usual - albeit good quality - pub snacks: crisps, nuts, pork scratchings. Soon after I want to find a local supplier for Scotch Eggs, Sausage Rolls etc. Unfortunately our space is too small for a kitchen so we can’t prepare any food on premises. On top of that I’d love to do cheese and beer pairing nights and similar events.
Q: Will You be Serving <Insert Drink Name Here>?
Our primary focus is on exceptional quality cask ale which will be continuously rotating along with a decent range of cider. As well as this, we’ll be offering a small range of quality wine and soft drinks. We’ll also have a beer fridge stocked with cans and bottles and hopefully some rarer beers too. If there’s ever a demand for something we’ll certainly do our best to get it in. Inclusivity is an important aspect for us too, so we’ll try to always have non-alcoholic, gluten-free and vegan-friendly beers available.
Q: Will You be Brewing Your Own Beer?
No... Well not at first anyway. If things go well, it could be an exciting avenue to expand upon in a couple of years' time. Our space is far too small to brew anything on site though. It would be cool to have a Microbrewery in Highams Park though wouldn’t it?
Q: What Is a Micropub?
Simply put, a micropub is a very small public house that focuses on quality beer and a sociable, welcoming atmosphere.
You can read a bit more about our aims and plans HERE in our About section, if you haven’t already done so.
