Weekly Update #2 - Staring At Walls - 29th November 2019

I’m yet to figure out exactly how I should be referring to the premises at the moment. It’s technically still a shop, but really it’s just an empty(ish) space, that will at some point take the form of a pub. So every time I say “I’m about to head to the…” I find myself hesitating as to what to say. As the building work begins to take shape I reckon it’ll be much easier to say ‘pub’. Until then I’ll continue to change my mind as to what to say.

Anyway, most of this week has been spent in the bar/shop (?) clearing things up and planning the final layout. At the moment this usually involves staring at an empty space for prolonged periods whilst trying to picture various permutations; working out the pros and cons of each. This probably looks a bit odd to a passerby… just me staring intently at the corner of a room for minutes at a time. It’s a lot of problem solving, but it’s pretty fun to work things out.

One change being made to the original layout willl be the cellar room’s slightly smaller size than originally anticipated. This will allow the bar to be relocated and therefore free up more floor space for patrons. Whilst we’ll have a small cellar, we don’t intend to have any reduction in the amount of beverages available. Speaking of which we’re planning to always have 4 cask ales on at any time, as well as at least 4 ciders on tap, this will be supplemented by a display fridge of various cans and bottles.

The major bottleneck before we can really get cracking with building work though is the sound proofing. The design document is in the very final stages before being sent off to the council for approval and as soon as said approval comes in (fingers crossed) we can get to work on the installation.

Finally, in other news, an exciting and more tangible development due in the next week or two will be the new front sign going up. I’m really pleased with the final design; it’s pretty simple but should fit perfectly amongst the other shop fronts. So if you live close by, keep an eye out when you pass.

Cheers,

Rob
