Update #37 - Green Hop and a Brief Closing of Shop
Hey all,
I always find that the start of Autumn comes with a mixture of feelings. On the one hand, I have already begun to miss the long, warm evenings of Summer and on the other, there’s the excitement of the upcoming holidays and the ability to enjoy a cosy beer indoors whilst it’s wet and windy outside. Plus it means more darker beers available!
Whilst October in a beer context usually conjures up thoughts of Oktoberfest (which isn’t at all a bad thing,) there’s also something suitably British that occurs…
Green Hopped Beer
The start of autumn brings the UK hop harvest, and with it Green Hopped beer. Also known as Fresh Hop and Wet Hop, Green Hopped beers are brewed from freshly harvested hops that have been picked only a few hours before the beer is brewed.
This week we’ve got TWO Green Hopped beers on cask to share with you:
Northdown - Hopalong Green Ale
A 4.5% Green Hopped Pale Ale. Brewed with hops grown by Hopalongthanet, Thanet Community Hop Farm. Jonny and the team at Northdown have been churning out some quality ales over the last few years in Margate, so we’re thrilled to have acquired a cask of their Hopalong ale.
ELB - Walthamstow Green-Hopped Pale 2021
This is the eighth year ELB have collaborated with the Walthamstow Hop Project. All hops are grown in the gardens/allotments/window boxes of local residents. This absolutely flew out last year, and there’s no doubt this year will be the same! 4.6% Green Hopped Pale Ale (possibly featuring hops grown by your neighbour!)
Closed for a Week
We’ll be closing the first week of November, re-opening on Wednesday 10th. Meaning our last day open will be Sunday 31st October (Halloween!) This is to allow us to get some general maintenance, along with a few improvements, completed around the pub.
Until next time!
Cheers,
The Stag & Lantern Team
